New Update: Delay in the Payment of Trainees Allowance


The management of the Teacher Trainees Association of Ghana has commended the Government of Ghana for paying all the arrears of the allowance for the academic year whiles capturing the 2020/2021 allowance in the budget.

TTAG in a press statement issued at the 25th General Assembly Meeting sighted by Realnewsgh.com is reminding the government through the Ministry of Finance and GTEC that Teacher Trainees upon starting the academic year have not received an allowance, and therefore humbly, calls for action to be taken to redress the issue for the delay.

Teacher Trainees across the 46 Public Colleges of Education are worried about the inability of the Government and the Student Loan Trust Fund to pay this semester’s allowance owed them.

The payment of Trainees allowance is one of the major promises of the New Patriotic Party before the 2016 General Election. NPP Government promised to restore the trainee’s allowance within 90 days upon assuming office to alleviate the plight of trainees.
According to the new allowance scheme introduced by this Government, each teacher trainee is entitled to a total amount of GH¢400.
Also in each month, GHC196.00 will be deducted by the Student loans trust fund as payment for the feeding fee per student. The amount that each trainee will receive after all deductions is GHC200.00
