GES Instructs Heads of Senior High Schools To Review Excessive Prospectus.
The management of the Ghana Education Service says it has instructed all heads of public senior high schools to revise the excessive school prospectus issued to first-year free senior high school students.
In an interview with Asempa FM, the Director-General of GES said some basic items are required from students however, schools issue prospectus that suit their environmental factors.
” Some things needed in the school are very basic. But not when the list can put parents in uncomfortable situations”. Some things have been traditions so we always write to the schools to allow them to bring basic things.
According to him, ” It is not by force to be specific on some items that will prevent the students from entering the school. We have spoken to the schools to revise the list and we hope they obey else we have to look at it again.” Professor Opoku told Asempa FM.
Moreover, Mr. Kwasi Amankwa on Asempa FM’s Ekosiisem show encouraged schools to use other means of getting some items needed for the school and not add them to the Prospectus, which he said bribing an unnecessary burden to parents. “Some parents have issues with the items, some things are means of discipline for the students which can help them in the future, but the schools must be considerate” the GES Executive director stated.
