Short Notes On Each of the ranks


Director-General
This is the highest rank in the Ghana Education Service. The rank is solely based on appointment upon the recommendation of the GES council to serve for a term of four years by the President of Ghana. The Director-General is responsible for formulating educational policies in the country.

Deputy Director-General
The second rank in the Ghana Education Service is Deputy Director-General.
The duties of the Deputy Director General are the Provision of technical and administrative support to ensure the achievement of the objectives of the GES.

Assistant Director I
The duty of Assistant Director I is tracking all the progress of policies prescribed by the Ministry of Education.

Assistant Director II rank
The Assistant Director II rank must act as an assistant teacher’s Director. They perform their duties when the Assistant Director I is away

Principal Superintendent
The Principal Superintendent performs the following duties, being in charge of school districts within their region.

Senior Superintendent I
A Senior Superintendent I in GES must have at least three years or more of continued service to Ghana Education Service.

Senior Superintendent II
A Senior Superintendent II officer in Ghana Education Service must have served three years and above continuously in the Ghana Education Service.

Superintendent I
A Superintendent I officer in Ghana Education Service must have served as a teacher for four or more years continuously for the Ghana Education Service.

Teacher Rank
These are teachers who are holders of certificates, diplomas, or degree qualifications in a related field of study.
