Double Track system in the second cycle institutions has created problems concerning the school attendance of students.
The Ministry of Education says the implementation of double track system in the second cycle institutions will not be done this year as students report to school on Monday , April 4,2022.
The main aim for the double track system was to reduce congestion in schools and to accommodate the projected increase in enrolment of Junior high school pupils into the senior high schools.
Also, the double track system was highly criticized and the Minister of Education, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum at a press briefing in June 2021, indicated that it will take about two to three years to end it.
Moreover, speaking to Citi News, the Public relations officer of Ministry of Education, Kwasi Kwarteng said that the double track system will not be introduced this year as adequate preparations have been put in place.
“That whole idea about dividing students into two where within a particular year , we have one group to go to school. This time around, we are not going to see that arrangements. ” There has been significant improvement in terms of infrastructure” he said.
Furthermore, according to him, the limited infrastructure that has prompted the double track system has been improved.
He also said that GetFund had ensured the completion of about 1,400 infrastructure that had made it possible for the government to suspend the double track system.
Mr. Kwasi Kwarteng further called on persons still having difficulty with placement to remain calm as the resolution centers remain open.
” Even though some first years are joining, our resolution centers will still be there to help students who may have issues with their placements and will require assistance, he noted.
